Someone actually tried to goad me into a race this morning

Pretty confident it wasn’t just my imagination. I was cruising along with cruise control at 68 in the middle lane. A Black ‘15 WRX STI comes speeding up on my left, but instead of passing it slowed down and matched my speed. I glanced over and noticed a passenger staring at me seemingly saying something. The STI bucked a few times, I presume because it was tapping the throttle (or having ringland failure), and when I didn’t react it finally sped off.

Do you really want to race a 4 cylinder Mustang, Subaru? If you win, you beat a 4 cylinder Mustang. If you lose, well your $35,000 STI just lost to a 4 cylinder Mustang. As much as I’d be glad to ruin your day, I’m not playing those games.

I love never having that problem. Though I can’t deny I’ve street raced a friend’s F-150 stop light to stop light. His truck had a slipping trans and mine, well is an old Toyota. There were no speed limits broken.

Oh man, that’s what I hated with my Corvette... Often dealing with people in their cars, at traffic lights or on the freeway, getting by me and doing vroom-vroom with their engines or lowering their window and screaming something...

Dude, I drive a 1995 Corvette that I paid 9000 Canadian dollars and drive all winter because I can’t afford another car. WTF do you think I have to prove???

(Still 300hp with a 6 speed manual ZF gearbox!! 0 to 60 in 5.2s eh!... I wanted to tell them to just google my car and see if they can “beat it”... If it can, then good! Google search races ftw!)

It’s really funny when bros try this shit on the S600. On the highway . Unless you’re in a 911 turbo, you will not win in a race from 50, especially not in your tyte Subaru sittin’ on blades. Maybe from a stop, but not in a place where I have space to wind the V12 out.

No joke, down the road I saw something pulled off to the side with hazards on. I thought it was the Subaru and laughed, but it wasn’t.

I’ve been autocrossing for 2 years and have personally seen 3 Subaru’s blow up.

I can relate to things like this when driving the kinds of highway cruisers that I enjoy. I think it bruises their fragile dudebro egos when something big catches up to them on the highway, resulting in this behavior.

The only thing that’s actually failed was a coil and now something is making it leak coolant from the radiator area. New coil pack was $1100. Preventative maintenence has been done to the suspension, transmission, tune up, oil flush, etc. to the tune of roughly $7k. Original purchase price was $11,000 and a trip to Kansas City in the civic back when it only ran on three cylinders.

Lol that must have been fun. I lucked out because both of my coil packs were replaced not too long before I bought the car. I’ve put about $3,800 in on preventative maintenance, including $2600 for a high pressure line and a intercooler pump. It sounds like he got a pretty great deal on his, I paid $17,000 for mine. Just an FYI, the radiator on the S600 is a bitch and a half to fix. To quote AMG tech

“Don’t even think about venturing down the path of removing the radiator. That’s a task reserved for those stuck in the third level of hell.It take me a full day to R&R an S600 radiator. Bumper, headlights, headlights support brackets, a while bunch of little hose support brackets with fastener locations that will make you wish you lived in a world where cars were never invented. And remember I have a high tolerance for German engineering.”

This has become such a big problem for me in the past few months. In the past two years it was pretty rare, but now literally everyone and their mother has been wanting to race me. I mean come on, a Chevy Traverse and an older Toyota Avalon tried me the other day.

And then there was a BRZ that was trying to get me to race to. It was annoying me that he was driving really dangerously just to catch up. I so wanted to make his car look like it was standing still but I just don’t do that thing on the streets. I know what my car is capable and don’t need to prove it to some idiot on a busy street.

Jesus. I plan on doing a renntech ECU/TCU re flash and possibly some exhaust work, most likely muffler delete, but I might just bite the bullet and go for a full S65 exhaust swap. He may want to upgrade the transmission internals as the stock tranny is rated by Mercedes to 1000nm/738 ft-lb, though the physical limit is closer to 811 ft-lb of torque.
